A professor from **National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University** (NYCU) in Taiwan, identified as Professor Du, was seriously injured after being hit by an unlicensed driver, highlighting the consequences of reckless driving. The incident occurred while Professor Du was commuting on his motorcycle, resulting in severe injuries and the disruption of his work.

The accident occurred when the unlicensed youth ran a red light, colliding with Professor Du. The professor suffered a dislocated right collarbone, requiring hospitalization, surgery, and extensive rehabilitation. This forced him to delay his research. Consequently, Professor Du was unable to apply for a research grant from the **National Science and Technology Council (NSTC)** and was unable to work for three months.

Professor Du filed a lawsuit seeking over NT$1.87 million in compensation from the youth and his parents. The court ruled in favor of Professor Du, ordering the three individuals to jointly pay NT$1,254,256 in damages. The court documents revealed the incident occurred at the intersection of Linsen Road and Siwei Road in **Hsinchu City**, where the professor was turning when the collision occurred.

Following the impact, Professor Du was rushed to the hospital and was diagnosed with a dislocated right collarbone. The injuries resulted in a 5% reduction in his ability to work.
