Taiwan's Crackdown on Noisy Modified Vehicles: 250 Citations and Over $10,000 in Fines

In a move to combat noise pollution caused by illegally modified vehicles, the Taichung City Police Department in Taiwan has been conducting extensive joint inspections with regulatory bodies. Since the beginning of the year, authorities have issued 250 citations to owners of modified motorcycles and other noisy vehicles, resulting in fines exceeding NT$300,000 (approximately $10,000 USD).

The Taichung City Police Department, in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Bureau and vehicle inspection authorities, initiated "Environmental, Police, and Inspection Joint Inspections" starting January 1st of this year. As of April 30th, 44 inspections have been conducted, resulting in the interception of 303 vehicles suspected of being modified to generate excessive noise. The Environmental Protection Bureau has levied fines on 86 vehicles on the spot, with the minimum fine set at NT$1,800 per case. This initiative aims to curb the growing trend of noise pollution from modified vehicles.
