Powering Up Taiwan: Taipower's Intense Hiring Competition
Thousands Vie for Positions as Taiwan's Leading Energy Provider Looks to the Future

TAIPEI, Taiwan – Taiwan Power Company (Taipower), a cornerstone of Taiwan's energy infrastructure, held its highly anticipated recruitment examinations on Sunday in major cities across the island, including Taipei, Taichung, Kaohsiung, and Hualien.
The rigorous recruitment process, which includes a written examination followed by subsequent assessments, saw nearly 12,000 individuals register for the opportunity to secure one of the 1,084 available positions. Of those registered, an impressive 6,882 candidates participated in the initial exam phase, according to reports from CNA.
Taipower has announced that the list of candidates advancing to the second round will be published on July 15th, with the next stage of evaluations slated for August 5th. Successful applicants who complete a one-year training period can expect a starting monthly salary of approximately NT$36,000 (US$1,150).
The company highlighted that certified electricians and those assigned to power grid maintenance could potentially earn up to NT$40,000 monthly, recognizing the specialized skills and responsibilities inherent in those roles.
The extensive recruitment drive is primarily driven by a wave of employee retirements and aligns with Taipower’s strategic shift towards net-zero emissions and sustainable energy solutions.
The most competitive area of interest for prospective employees was power distribution and line maintenance, with approximately 1,800 applicants contending for 489 available positions. The accounting category proved equally fierce, with 214 candidates vying for just three openings. Furthermore, around 6,000 applicants sought 108 administrative openings, including 32 positions specifically reserved for individuals with disabilities.
To ensure the integrity of the examination process, Taipower collaborated with the National Communications Commission, employing advanced technology to monitor for irregular radio signals and detect any unauthorized electronic devices.
Recognizing the hands-on nature of many roles, Taipower emphasized that positions often require a combination of technical expertise and physical stamina. As such, the second phase of the assessment will incorporate physical tests, practical exercises, and comprehensive oral interviews to evaluate candidates' capabilities.
Concurrent with Taipower's recruitment, Chunghwa Post Co. also conducted its own hiring examination on Sunday, attracting roughly 15,000 registrants. Around 12,000 candidates participated in the exam, competing for approximately 1,100 openings.
