Taiwan's Teacher's Day Holiday: A Victory for the People!

Legislation Set to Restore Holiday to the Public This Year.
Taiwan's Teacher's Day Holiday: A Victory for the People!

In a significant move impacting the lives of all citizens, the Legislative Yuan in Taiwan has reached a consensus on restoring public holidays, specifically focusing on the Teacher's Day holiday. The negotiation results, spearheaded by the KMT, will have the bill on the schedule of commemorative days and festival implementation regulations.

Niu Hsiu-ting, a KMT legislator and convener of the Internal Affairs Committee, highlighted the urgency of addressing the eight-year-long delay in restoring these holidays to the public. Despite potential administrative costs, the opposition parties have agreed on a unified front. The implementation of the law will come into effect immediately after it is passed and announced by the Presidential Office.

The proposed "4+1 version" includes the public holidays of September 28th, honoring the birth of Confucius (Teacher's Day), October 25th (Taiwan's Restoration Day and Kinmen's Battle of Guningtou), December 25th (Constitution Day), New Year’s Eve and May 1st (Labor Day). If approved, Teacher's Day will be the first holiday to be observed this year.
