Indonesia Doubles Down on Carbon Trading: Expanding Global Partnerships

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia, under the leadership of Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, is actively expanding its network of carbon trading agreements, signaling a strong commitment to international climate action.

Following the recent signing of a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) with the Gold Standard Foundation, Minister Nurofiq revealed that Indonesia is poised to solidify similar agreements with several nations, with a particular focus on partnerships with Norway.

"The MRA that is most ready is with Norway," stated Minister Nurofiq, highlighting the advanced stage of discussions. He expressed optimism for an accelerated negotiation process, projecting the agreement to be finalized within the next one to two weeks.

Beyond Norway, Indonesia is also actively pursuing MRAs with South Korea and Denmark. This strategic expansion underscores the nation's commitment to fostering global collaboration in the carbon trading sphere.

Indonesia is also working to establish collaborative ties with major international carbon standards, mirroring the recent partnership with the Gold Standard Foundation. Discussions with prominent entities like Verra and Plan Vivo are underway, further solidifying Indonesia's position in the global carbon market.

Minister Nurofiq emphasized that carbon trading forms a core element of Indonesia's Carbon Economic Value (NEK) framework, a comprehensive initiative aimed at reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
