A somber incident unfolded off the coast of Yamaguchi Prefecture in western Japan, as a small fishing boat capsized on Wednesday, resulting in the tragic loss of two lives. The local coast guard confirmed the deaths on Thursday, following a night of intense search and rescue operations.

According to authorities, the two men, believed to be Masamichi Harada and Kitani Akinobu, both 76 and residents of Ube, went fishing around 1 p.m. on Wednesday. When the boat failed to return, the coast guard was alerted, launching a search that continued throughout the night.


The capsized vessel was located approximately 2.5 kilometers from Kawashiri Cape in Nagato. One man was found near the overturned boat, while the other was discovered in the water southwest of the boat's position. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the inherent risks associated with maritime activities and the importance of safety precautions at sea.
