Missing Millions: Vietnamese Worker in Taiwan Faces Investigation After Losing Large Sum of Money on Train

A Vietnamese migrant worker, identified as Mr. Hu, found himself in a perplexing situation after losing a bag containing NT$4 million on a Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) commuter train. The bag, which was recovered by the train conductor, immediately raised suspicions due to the source of the money.

The police investigation revealed the money was not withdrawn from a bank. Furthermore, Mr. Hu's employer stated his monthly salary was only around NT$30,000. Mr. Hu claimed the NT$4 million was his savings and belonged to a friend, and he needed to return it to his brother-in-law. This explanation raised concerns, and the police decided to hold the money temporarily. They will investigate and only return the funds if no illegal activities are discovered.

According to the TRA and the Railway Police investigation, Mr. Hu left the bag on the 3258 train. He realized his mistake after disembarking the train and immediately returned to the Tainan station service desk for assistance. TRA staff, alerted to the missing bag, notified the conductor, who found the black handbag in the second carriage of the train. The bag was full of old bills.
