A disturbing hit-and-run incident occurred in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on the afternoon of July 23rd, involving a Mercedes-Benz and a teenage cyclist. The incident took place on Dashun 2nd Road in Sanmin District.

According to reports, a 51-year-old man, identified as Huang, driving a silver Mercedes, collided with a 17-year-old cyclist, identified as Yin. Instead of stopping to assess the situation, Huang reportedly reversed his vehicle, and then, with the car door still open, proceeded to drive away, pushing the fallen bicycle.

Police were alerted to the incident at 5 PM and promptly responded. Utilizing the vehicle's license plate information, authorities reviewed surveillance footage and identified Huang's escape route. After tracing the vehicle to its location, police arrested Huang at his residence at approximately 6:30 PM on the same day.

The investigation took a further turn as it was discovered that Huang was also wanted on three separate drug-related charges. The case is being transferred to the Taiwan Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office for investigation, involving charges of both hit-and-run and drug offenses.

The injured cyclist, Yin, sustained only minor injuries and sought medical attention on his own. Preliminary investigations indicate Huang failed to maintain a safe distance, violating Article 58, Paragraph 1, Clause 1 of the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act, which carries a fine of between NT$600 and NT$1200.

Furthermore, as Huang left the scene after causing injury, he is suspected of violating Article 185-4, Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code, which addresses hit-and-run offenses. This could result in a prison sentence of between six months and five years. Under Article 62, Paragraph 4 of the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act, Huang's driver's license is also subject to revocation.
