NONO's Fate Decided: Taiwan Artist Faces Verdict in Sexual Assault Case

NONO, the Taiwanese artist, faces a verdict today, after being charged with multiple counts of sexual assault and abuse. The case, which has garnered significant attention in Taiwan, involves allegations of NONO's misconduct towards six women across seven incidents.

The accusations brought forth by the Shilin District Prosecutors Office include three counts of forcible sexual intercourse, two counts of attempted forcible sexual intercourse, and two counts of indecent assault. Prosecutors have called for a heavy sentence, citing NONO's alleged reprehensible behavior.

The Shilin District Court has been deliberating on the case for nearly a year. Throughout seven court appearances, NONO has maintained his innocence, denying all charges.

The prosecution's case outlined how NONO allegedly leveraged his celebrity status and professional opportunities to establish contact with the women. The alleged offenses included forced kissing, inappropriate touching, and instances of forcible sexual intercourse. Prosecutors emphasized NONO's evasive actions and lack of remorse following the alleged offenses, which they say inflicted substantial emotional and psychological harm on the victims.

The court proceedings, conducted in private, included the examination of evidence such as video footage and the victims' drawings of the locations involved. Despite NONO's denial, the court found connections between the victims and NONO based on the evidence. The arguments concluded in February of this year.

It’s important to note that the Shilin District Prosecutors Office previously decided not to prosecute certain allegations due to insufficient evidence. However, after the victims appealed, the High Prosecutors Office overturned the decision, citing incomplete investigation and sent the cases back to the Shilin District Prosecutors Office for further review. Those investigations are ongoing.
