Tragic Highway Collision in Taiwan: Woman Dies After Being Hit by Multiple Vehicles

A devastating multi-vehicle collision on National Highway 1 near the Tainan Ren-te Service Area in Taiwan claimed the life of a 31-year-old female driver on the night of July 7th. Investigations revealed the woman's car was caught in a series of collisions.

Following the incident, a 63-year-old driver, identified as Jiang, of the container truck involved in the accident, offered an apology to the victim's family on July 12th during an examination conducted by the authorities. However, his explanation that he was experiencing "ghostly interference" ("鬼遮眼") during the incident ignited intense anger among the family members.

Jiang, at the mortuary, offered a bow of apology to the family. He attributed the incident to "ghostly interference, sudden braking failure," sparking an emotional response from the family, who questioned the remark. As the deceased's body was being moved for examination, Jiang attempted to explain the accident to the family, who immediately stopped him and strongly protested.

Jiang informed the prosecutors and police that he was traveling through the Ren-te section when he failed to notice the traffic back-up caused by road construction, consequently hitting the vehicles ahead. He stated that he first collided with a large truck and was unaware that the victim, named Lu, had a car in front of that truck, describing the collision as "indirect." Jiang further stated, "I only woke up after the collision," in an attempt to explain the circumstances.

The investigation indicated that the accident occurred around 11 p.m. Jiang's container truck crashed into four vehicles in front, including Lu's car and three large trucks. Lu's car was completely destroyed due to being crushed by multiple trucks. Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene, rescuing Lu and transporting her to the hospital, but she passed away from severe injuries. Additionally, six people sustained minor injuries and received medical treatment.
