Taiwanese Man Rescued After Being Trafficked and Forced into Fraud in Thailand

A Taiwanese man, identified as Mr. Yue, who was already wanted for fraud in Taiwan, was lured to Bangkok, Thailand, by a criminal group with promises of high-paying jobs. Upon arrival, he was forced to participate in fraudulent activities and was subjected to physical abuse and confinement. He attempted to escape by jumping from a second-story window, resulting in severe leg fractures.

The police in Taiwan, specifically the Jiji Police Precinct, initiated a rescue operation after receiving a report from Mr. Yue's mother, Ms. Wu. The group, which was created to investigate the case, learned that her son was promised high-paying jobs, free flights, and accommodation, and was forced to perform illegal gambling activities and fraud. The police collaborated with the Taiwanese representative office in Thailand to arrange Mr. Yue's return to Taiwan.

Mr. Yue, who was also wanted by the Changhua District Court for a separate fraud case, was apprehended at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport on May 2nd upon his return, while he was in a wheelchair due to his injuries. The authorities are now expanding their investigation to identify and pursue the transnational fraud ring behind the trafficking.

The Jiji Police Precinct urges the public to remain vigilant and verify the authenticity of job offers, especially those found online, and to be wary of promises of high-paying overseas positions with easy work and free accommodation. They also discourage individuals from traveling abroad for illegal activities, to avoid legal trouble or becoming victims of such scams.
