Fire Incident at Funeral Home Parking Lot Raises Concerns in Kaohsiung, Taiwan

Kaohsiung, Taiwan – A fire broke out in the parking lot of a well-known funeral home in Kaohsiung this morning, causing concern among residents. This incident follows a recent stabbing at the Kaohsiung Municipal Funeral Parlor, leading to heightened anxiety in the community.

The fire occurred around 6:00 AM on November 13th. A car parked in the funeral home's lot suddenly caught fire. Staff members quickly used fire extinguishers to try and put out the flames, and the fire department dispatched three vehicles and nine firefighters to the scene. The fire was extinguished by 7:08 AM, and fortunately, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, with residents suggesting it may have been spontaneous combustion, pending the fire department's official findings.

This event adds to existing concerns following a stabbing incident at the Kaohsiung Municipal Funeral Parlor on November 11th. A 31-year-old man, identified as 吴姓男子, and a 32-year-old man, 陳姓男子, were involved in a dispute over a 10,000 TWD debt, leading to a verbal argument during a public memorial service. A 27-year-old man, 楊姓男子, intervened and attempted to mediate, but a physical altercation ensued. During the fight, 楊姓男子 reportedly used a multi-tool knife to stab 吴姓男子 in the abdomen before fleeing the scene. The incident caused considerable distress among those present.

The latest fire at the neighboring funeral home has exacerbated the feelings of unease among local residents, who are now raising questions about safety and security.
