A video circulating on social media has captured the attention of the public, showcasing a cyclist's audacious maneuver in Tainan City, Taiwan. The incident, which occurred on May 11th, involved a man riding a mountain bike down a staircase leading into an underpass near the Tainan City North District Park Road Library.

The footage shows the cyclist boldly navigating the steps and then speeding through the underpass, prompting a range of reactions online. The original poster sarcastically commented on the incident, suggesting that "area speed cameras" might be needed in the underpass, adding a remark about the potential waste of "National Health Insurance" funds if the cyclist were injured.

Responding to the situation, the Deputy Chief of the Tainan City Police Fifth Precinct, Chen Po-Yu, stated that the police would review surveillance footage and investigate the matter. The cyclist could face penalties under Article 68, Paragraph 1, Clause 2 of the Social Order Maintenance Act, which prohibits behaviors that disrupt public spaces and carries a potential penalty of up to three days in detention or a fine of up to NT$12,000.

The police also emphasized the importance of pedestrian safety. They urged cyclists to dismount and walk their bikes before entering underpasses, highlighting that cycling in these areas is a violation of regulations and poses risks to both the cyclist and pedestrians. This includes the potential for accidents and associated legal consequences.
