Brutal Neighborly Dispute in Taiwan Leaves Man Blind
A shocking incident of violence in New Taipei City highlights escalating tensions and severe consequences.

Taipei, April 19 - A harrowing incident in New Taipei City has left one man permanently blind following a violent confrontation with a neighbor, authorities reported on Saturday.
The Ruifang Precinct of the New Taipei City Police Department confirmed that the suspect, surnamed Chien, surrendered himself to police on Thursday morning, admitting to a physical altercation with his neighbor, a man named Lien.
Chien confessed to striking Lien in the head with a brick after a verbal dispute rapidly escalated into a physical fight.
Responding officers discovered Lien at the scene, suffering from severe head trauma, facial injuries, and a chin wound. His eyes were visibly swollen.
Medical professionals later determined that both of Lien's eyeballs had been dislodged. While police recovered the eyeballs at the scene, they could not be reattached, resulting in permanent blindness for Lien.
Investigators revealed a history of conflict between the two men. During the altercation, Lien reportedly bit Chien's arm and refused to release it. In an effort to break free, Chien inflicted the grave eye injuries upon Lien.
Chien was subsequently transferred to the Keelung District Prosecutors Office on suspicion of attempted murder. He was later released on NT$120,000 (US$3,700) bail following questioning.
