Close Call at Taiwan Railway Crossing: Truck Hit After Unexpected Barrier Drop

An incident occurred at a railway crossing on Fan Hua Road in Huatan Township, Changhua County, Taiwan, involving a near miss between a truck and a train.

The truck driver, surnamed Yan (46 years old), attempted to cross the railway tracks after the barrier lifted. However, the barrier unexpectedly lowered again just three seconds later due to an approaching train, striking the truck's front. The driver, startled by the situation, immediately applied the brakes but was unable to avoid the collision.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the accident.

Police investigation revealed that two trains were scheduled to pass the crossing. The first train passed, and the barrier briefly lifted. However, as the second train approached, the barrier immediately lowered, catching the truck driver off guard.

Following the incident, the police arrived at the scene promptly. Train services were not affected, and all scheduled departures proceeded on time. The Changhua Police Bureau issued a safety reminder to road users, urging them to adhere to the "stop, look, and listen" principle when approaching railway crossings. Even when the barrier is raised, drivers should ensure that no train is approaching before proceeding to avoid accidents.
