Debt Turned Deadly: Man Charged with Murder in Kaohsiung, Taiwan
A dispute over a 100,000 NTD debt led to a fatal stabbing during a mahjong game in Kaohsiung, highlighting issues of debt and violence in Taiwan.

KAOHSIUNG, TAIWAN – A man identified as Yeh (57) has been indicted for murder in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, following a fatal stabbing on January 12th of this year. The incident, which took place in the Fengshan District, stemmed from a debt dispute of 100,000 NTD (New Taiwan Dollars) between Yeh and the victim, Chen (61).
According to the investigation, Yeh went to a temple to confront Chen about the outstanding debt. After an argument, Yeh attacked Chen while he was playing mahjong with friends. Yeh used a betel nut knife to slash Chen's neck, causing severe bleeding.
Emergency services were called, and Chen was rushed to the hospital. Tragically, Chen succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 1:30 PM that day. Following the attack, Yeh fled the scene on a motorcycle.
Law enforcement apprehended Yeh at his home and he was subsequently charged with murder. Yeh admitted to the crime, claiming he acted out of anger. The prosecution, having reviewed the evidence, has indicted Yeh on charges of murder.
