Eighty-four-year-old apple farmer Kim Mi-ja, walking with a cane, surveys the scene, her home reduced to rubble and covered in ash. The blazes, described as the worst wildfires in the nation's history, claimed 28 lives.

Kim Mi-ja, who built her house in Chumok-ri village herself, shared her profound sorrow. "My heart feels like it's going to burst even now speaking about it," she recounted to AFP, expressing the deep emotional toll of the event.
