Justice Served: Supreme Court Upholds 10-Year Sentence in Miaoli Killing Case

Thai National's Conviction Finalized in Fatal Stabbing Incident, Ensuring Justice for the Victim

Taipei, April 15 – In a landmark decision, Taiwan's Supreme Court has finalized the 10-year and six-month jail sentence for Ladta Aphisit, a Thai national convicted of fatally stabbing his compatriot in Miaoli County nearly two years ago.

According to recently released court documents, the verdict against Aphisit, who previously worked for a construction firm in Miaoli's Tongluo Township, is now final and unappealable.

The tragic incident occurred on December 8, 2023. The court's findings indicate that the victim, Kamsookdee Wichin, had reprimanded Aphisit for speaking too loudly on his phone within their shared migrant worker dormitory, which ultimately led to the fatal confrontation.

The court heard how Aphisit subsequently attacked Wichin, inflicting 11 stab wounds to the head, chest, abdomen, and waist with a fruit knife. These injuries caused multiple organ failure, leading to fatal septic shock.

Following the stabbing, Aphisit surrendered to the police and confessed to the crime.

The Miaoli District Court initially sentenced Aphisit to nine years and ten months in prison in August 2024. However, this ruling was later appealed. The Taiwan High Court branch in Taichung deemed the initial sentence insufficient and subsequently increased it to ten years and six months.

Despite a further appeal to the Supreme Court, the higher court found no errors in the lower court's judgment and upheld the sentence, bringing closure to this sad case.
