Cardinal Robert Prevost, a 69-year-old born in Chicago, has been chosen as the 267th leader of the Catholic Church, marking a groundbreaking moment as the first American Pope.


Following his election, he appeared on the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica, presenting himself to the world. He will be known as Pope "Leo XIV".
