Porsche Driver's Deadly Legacy: Repeat DUI Offender in Taiwan Hits Again

In a disturbing turn of events in Taiwan, a repeat drunk driving offender has once again caused a devastating accident. Following the recent death of a 19-year-old student due to a drunk driver, another tragedy unfolded in the early hours of December 12th, in Kaohsiung City. A white Porsche, driven by 59-year-old Hong, struck and killed a 67-year-old female motorcyclist, Ms. Tsai.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Dashun 1st Road and Longde Road. After the accident, Hong reportedly became agitated and confronted the police officers on the scene, challenging them to arrest him.

Hong's history of drunk driving convictions dates back to 2009, with further offenses in 2014 and 2019. Despite these prior convictions, he continued to drive under the influence.

According to court documents, Hong, who works as a laborer, received a suspended prosecution for a DUI in 2009. In 2014, he was again caught driving under the influence after drinking beer. He was subsequently sentenced to three months in prison, which he could convert to a fine or community service. In 2019, Hong refused a breathalyzer test, leading to a NT$90,000 fine, but no accident.

Tragically, on the morning of the 12th, Hong was driving a Porsche, lent to him as payment, when he ran a red light, colliding with Ms. Tsai's motorcycle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A breathalyzer test revealed a blood alcohol level of 1.2 mg/L, indicating severe intoxication. Despite the severity of the situation, Hong's behavior remained aggressive, shouting at police officers. He was eventually arrested and taken into custody for further investigation by the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office.
