Taiwan School Under Fire: Exam Questions Spark Controversy Over Inappropriate Language

A junior high school in Kinmen, Taiwan, is facing scrutiny after exam papers for a ninth-grade health and physical education subject were found to contain inappropriate language and sexually suggestive terms. The terms used, including offensive slang, references to infidelity, and a mention of rape, have sparked strong backlash from students and parents.

The school, Jincheng Junior High School, has responded to the controversy. Officials have stated that they immediately reported the incident to the school safety authorities. They are also initiating a gender equality investigation as per the Gender Equality Education Act, which will guide the investigation and subsequent actions.

According to reports, a teacher, referred to as Mr. Weng, was responsible for creating the exam questions. The language used caused confusion and distress among some students. After the news spread, parents voiced their discontent on social media platforms, criticizing the school for a lack of oversight in the question-approval process. Comments expressed outrage, questioning how such content could be included in an exam and criticizing the teacher's ability to educate children.
