Vietjet Air Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Taiwan, Stranding Passengers

TAIPEI, Taiwan – A Vietjet Air flight, en route from Seoul, South Korea, to Da Nang, Vietnam, made an unscheduled landing at Kaohsiung's Xiaogang Airport in Taiwan on Saturday morning.

Flight VJ881, departing Seoul at 6 a.m., was expected to arrive in Vietnam after 8 a.m., according to reports. However, the pilot requested permission to land at Kaohsiung Airport at 7:53 a.m. The aircraft touched down safely at 8:17 a.m.

All 228 passengers onboard were unharmed. While the majority were rebooked on flights to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, approximately 70 passengers were provided with accommodation in Kaohsiung, with a new flight scheduled for Sunday.

The airline announced later that a crack had been discovered in a window, potentially caused by an object. Citing the safety of passengers and crew as the primary concern, the pilot made the decision to land in Taiwan.
