G7 Condemns China's Military Drills Near Taiwan, Highlighting Regional Security Concerns

Washington, April 6 – Top diplomats from the G7 countries have voiced significant concern regarding the recent military exercises conducted by China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) around Taiwan, highlighting the potential for heightened regional and global security risks.

In a joint statement released on the U.S. State Department website, the foreign ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union expressed their "deep concern about China's provocative actions, particularly the recent large-scale military drills around Taiwan."

"These increasingly frequent and destabilizing activities are raising cross-Strait tensions and put at risk global security and prosperity," the statement emphasized.

The G7 underscored the international community's vested interest in "the preservation of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait."

G7 members unequivocally "oppose any unilateral actions to threaten such peace and stability, including by force or coercion," and reaffirmed their commitment to encouraging "the peaceful resolution of issues through constructive cross-Strait dialogue," the statement concluded.

The PLA's Eastern Theater Command conducted its latest exercises in waters surrounding Taiwan on April 1st and 2nd.

China's Taiwan Affairs Office described these two-day exercises as "a stern warning" directed towards "Taiwan independence" separatist forces.
