The Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued a significant earthquake report (No. 082), revealing a magnitude 5.9 earthquake that struck the eastern waters of Taiwan at 11:26 PM tonight. The earthquake's depth was recorded at 15.3 kilometers, with a maximum intensity of Level 3.

The maximum intensity levels across different areas were: Hualien County 3; Yilan, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Nantou, Taichung, Hsinchu County, Miaoli, Hsinchu City, Taitung, Chiayi County, Changhua, and Yunlin all experiencing Level 2; and Taipei, Kaohsiung, Chiayi City, and Tainan experiencing Level 1.
