Car Crash in Nantou: Vehicle Plunges into Convenience Store After Brake Failure

A car driven by a 68-year-old woman, surnamed Cao, crashed into a convenience store in Ren'ai Township, Nantou County, Taiwan on the 22nd of the month. The incident occurred as she was driving from Qingjing Farm towards Wushe.

According to the police report, the vehicle veered off the road and crashed into the store, causing significant damage to both the car and the shop. Fortunately, only Cao and one passenger sustained minor injuries.

Police investigations revealed that Cao reported a sudden brake failure. Alcohol tests indicated a zero blood alcohol content. The Ren'ai Police Precinct is investigating the cause of the accident further.

The accident occurred near the 3-kilometer mark of Provincial Highway 14A. The impact caused the front of the vehicle to be significantly damaged, and the store's entrance was left with shattered glass. Inside the shop, furniture and merchandise were also damaged.

Police officials highlighted that the car was prevented from fully entering the store due to structural support and that no other customers were inside at the time, mitigating further injuries. Ren'ai Police Precinct Chief Zeng Wenyong reminded drivers to use lower gears when descending mountain roads to control speed and prevent brake failure due to overheating. He also emphasized the importance of pre-trip vehicle inspections, avoiding fatigue while driving, and adhering to traffic regulations for safety.
