Taiwan's Earth Village Language School Faces Mounting Financial Troubles: Allegations of Unpaid Wages and Customer Refunds

Following a controversy involving a dentist, the language school is reportedly withholding salaries from employees and facing potential refund demands.

Taiwan - Recent reports indicate that Earth Village, a language school in Taiwan, is grappling with significant financial difficulties. The situation has raised concerns among employees and customers alike.

The news follows an incident where the Earth Village owner allegedly owes a dentist, Dr. Shen, 15 million New Taiwan Dollars (NTD). According to reports, the owner allegedly instructed individuals, including Zhou Wenhan, to harass the dentist. Further, Zhou Zijun was arrested for allegedly assaulting Dr. Shen.

Now, employees at the Earth Village headquarters are coming forward, claiming the company has been withholding salaries for two months, affecting over twenty employees. The unpaid wages reportedly amount to over a million NTD. Many employees have already resigned, and some have reported the issue to the Labor Department.

Employee A, who works at the Taipei Main Station headquarters, stated that the employees, whose salaries range from 30,000 to 50,000 NTD, have not been paid since April. According to Employee A, the owner, Chen Zhongyi, has used various excuses to avoid paying the employees.

Due to the unpaid salaries, numerous employees have left their positions, with almost ten resigning this month alone. Employee A expressed concerns that parents may struggle to get refunds because of all of these events. After the news of the dentist being assaulted, many parents have requested refunds.

Attempts to reach Earth Village for comment were unsuccessful. A call to the school went unanswered, and the relevant staff member has reportedly left. Numerous attempts to contact Chen Zhongyi were also unsuccessful.
