Bus Incident on Nanjing East Road in Taipei: Passengers Injured

A traffic accident occurred on the evening of October 20th in the Songshan District of Taipei, Taiwan. A bus was traveling along the dedicated bus lane on Nanjing East Road, heading east to west. As the bus approached the intersection of Beining Road, the left front of the vehicle struck a concrete barrier of a pedestrian refuge island, causing the bus to lose control and veer right.

The bus subsequently mounted the sidewalk before coming to a stop. The incident resulted in two passengers on the bus sustaining injuries, requiring transport to the hospital. Fortunately, both passengers were reported to be conscious.

Police investigations revealed that the bus driver, identified as Mr. Su, was traveling in the first lane on Nanjing East Road when the collision with the pedestrian refuge island occurred. Another vehicle, driven by Mr. Shen, was also involved in a separate incident nearby, colliding with a streetlight pole. Mr. Shen and the two passengers in his car were also sent to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the bus reported that the concrete barrier was a new feature of the road.

The bus driver stated that he was unfamiliar with the road layout and had been driving too close to the barrier. The police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
