Lost Tourist with Mild Dementia Found Safe in Taiwan's Scenic Fuxing District

A 72-year-old man, identified as Mr. Chen from Hualien County, was safely located after going missing while visiting the Bat Cave in Fuxing District, Taoyuan City, Taiwan.

According to reports, Mr. Chen, who has been diagnosed with mild dementia, was with his family on a trip to the popular Bat Cave area. During their visit, Mr. Chen wandered off. After searching for approximately an hour without success, the family contacted the police for assistance.

Responding to the call, the Sanmin Police Station dispatched officers, led by Deputy Director Hu Xuteng, to the scene. They collaborated with the Fuxing Fire Department, the Fuxing District Rescue Association, and volunteer mountain police to begin a thorough search of the area.

Based on the assessment of the search team, it was believed Mr. Chen may have inadvertently strayed towards Guanyin Cave, a nearby location. The search teams focused their efforts in that direction, navigating the muddy and moss-covered hiking trails made treacherous by recent rainfall.

After about an hour of intensive searching, Mr. Chen was found safe and sound. He was able to walk and was escorted back to the parking area where he was reunited with his family. Mr. Chen’s daughter expressed her gratitude for the swift and effective rescue operation. This incident highlights the importance of preparedness and the collaborative efforts of local authorities and community groups in ensuring the safety of visitors to Taiwan’s natural attractions.
