In a case that has gripped Taoyuan, Taiwan, a 39-year-old man, has been indicted on charges related to a series of arsons that occurred in the city last November. The incidents, which unfolded within a short span of an hour, saw firefighters and police scramble to multiple locations in the Taoyuan District.

The events began on the evening of November 14th, when the suspect allegedly stole a pair of gloves from a local temple on Linsen Road. Shortly after, he is accused of using a lighter to set fire to religious items within a nearby temple on Yushan Street, causing damage to plastic partitions and incense burners.

The arson spree continued as the man is alleged to have set ablaze a plastic tarp on a fence and then targeted two other temples, destroying tables, chairs, and brooms. Alerted by the incidents, the police were able to apprehend the man at the scene, supported by witness accounts and surveillance footage. Evidence recovered from the suspect included two lighters, the stolen gloves, and a red bicycle.

Following an investigation that incorporated fire scene reports, photographic evidence, and surveillance footage, the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office confirmed the man’s involvement and filed charges of theft and arson. The investigation underscores the efficiency of collaborative efforts between the police and fire departments in Taoyuan, Taiwan, and the use of evidence in bringing swift justice to the offender.
