Taiwan's Call for WHO Inclusion Echoes Through Chicago Parade

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwanese organizations, led by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago, amplified their call for Taiwan's inclusion in the World Health Organization (WHO) during the annual Polish Constitution Day Parade in Chicago on Saturday.

More than 60 Taiwanese Americans participated in the parade, displaying banners advocating for Taiwan's participation in the World Health Assembly (WHA), according to TECO.

TECO Director General Dennis Yen-Feng Lei (類延峰) emphasized that China's interpretation of UN Resolution 2758 is used to politically isolate Taiwan. Lei stated that Taiwan is eager and equipped to contribute to the international community, underscoring that medical expertise shouldn't be compromised by politics.

He urged US Midwest communities to support Taiwan's meaningful participation in the WHO and WHA, emphasizing the need for Taiwan to assist more nations and contribute to a future of global health without borders.

Parade organizers celebrated the collaboration between Taiwan and Poland in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, including joint humanitarian missions to aid displaced Ukrainian refugees. They also acknowledged Taiwan's donation of masks and medical supplies to Poland, and Poland's reciprocal contribution of 400,000 AstraZeneca vaccines to Taiwan.

These collaborative efforts underscore Taiwan's capabilities and commitment to international humanitarian cooperation, organizers stated.

The 78th WHA is scheduled from May 19-27.
