Taiwan Court Upholds 28-Year Sentence for Preschool Teacher in Shocking Child Abuse Case

Taipei, Taiwan – The Supreme Court of Taiwan has delivered its final verdict in the case of Mao Chun-shen (毛畯珅), rejecting his appeal and upholding the 28-year, eight-month prison sentence. This decision, announced on Thursday, solidifies the punishment for multiple offenses related to the sexual assault of minors.

The ruling stems from a case involving egregious acts committed between 2021 and 2023. Mao was found guilty of nine counts of sexual assault by penetration, 203 counts of indecent assault, and 14 counts of filming obscene images, all targeting minors. The initial verdict was delivered by the Taiwan High Court in January 2025.

The accumulation of sentences for all criminal charges totaled an astonishing 1,291 years. However, the High Court mandated a term of 28 years and eight months. This sentence reflects the severe damage inflicted upon the victims' physical and mental well-being, as well as the profound trauma experienced by their families, as stated by the court.

Many of the offenses took place while Mao was employed as a preschool teacher at the Taipei Piramide School (台北市私立培諾米達幼兒園), which was owned by his mother. He was initially arrested in July 2023 following accusations of sexually assaulting children at the preschool, leading to his indictment in August of the same year.

The first reports against Mao were filed in June 2022. Further investigation uncovered an additional case where the Taipei District Prosecutors Office indicted him in October 2024 for sexually assaulting 39 children and filming sexually explicit content involving minors in public 306 times, beginning in 2021. This second case is still under investigation.
