Taiwan Political Drama: Allegations of Forged Signatures in Recall Campaign, Key Figure Released

In a developing political saga in Taiwan, investigations surrounding the alleged falsification of signatures in the recall campaigns targeting Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislators Wu Szu-yao and Wu Pei-yi have taken a new turn.

On the 17th of the month, law enforcement agencies conducted six searches targeting the Kuomintang (KMT) Taipei City Party Headquarters and the First District Party Headquarters. Key figures, including KMT Taipei City Party Chairman Huang Lu Chin Ju, Secretary-General Chu Wen-ching, General Manager Yao Fu-wen, and First District Party Headquarters Executive Officer Tseng Fan-chuan, were brought in for questioning.

Following the interrogation, the prosecution requested the detention of the four individuals. However, at approximately 5 a.m. this morning, the Taipei District Court ruled that Huang Lu Chin Ju and Tseng Fan-chuan be released without bail. Meanwhile, Yao and Chu were ordered to be detained and prohibited from contact with others.

The investigation began at 8 a.m. yesterday. Prosecutors transferred the suspects and related documents to the court’s compulsory measures division. While the four suspects waited in the holding area, the court was handling other cases, including fraud and corruption allegations. The prosecution stated its intent to present arguments to the court.
