Heavy Rainfall Causes Severe Flooding Disrupting Taiwan's Railway Service

Taiwan faced significant disruption to its railway services today as heavy rainfall triggered severe flooding in the Taoyuan area. The Central Weather Administration issued a heavy rain advisory this morning, and intense downpours began around 9:00 AM, significantly impacting operations on the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA).

The stretch between Zhongli and Puxin stations was particularly affected, with flooding forcing the closure of the railway line in both directions. Multiple train services were delayed, with some passengers experiencing delays of up to 179 minutes. The situation stranded numerous commuters at Taoyuan Railway Station, sparking complaints among those waiting for their journeys to resume.

The TRA confirmed that the suspension of services was due to the heavy rain and subsequent flooding. The company reported that the water level had risen above the tracks between Neili and Fugang stations beginning at 9:52 AM. They immediately dispatched engineering staff to monitor the situation. A Level 1 emergency response team was activated at 10:20 AM, and the TRA initiated a bus replacement service to assist affected passengers.
