Taiwanese Nationals Detained in Cambodia: Diplomatic Efforts Underway to Secure Return

In a significant development concerning Taiwanese nationals abroad, Cambodian authorities have recently apprehended a substantial number of individuals linked to alleged fraud operations. Over the past month, Cambodian police have cracked down on multiple scam groups operating within the country's borders.

On January 31st, a joint operation resulted in the arrest of 7 Chinese nationals and a staggering 179 Taiwanese citizens. Concerns have arisen as there is a possibility that those arrested could be extradited to mainland China on January 13th. Taiwan's representative office in Cambodia, and its associated agencies, are urgently communicating with Cambodian officials in an effort to repatriate the detained Taiwanese citizens back to Taiwan.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau's International Division has confirmed that Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its overseas representative offices are actively monitoring the situation and coordinating responses. The Criminal Investigation Bureau's liaison officer stationed in Ho Chi Minh City is working alongside Taiwanese diplomatic personnel to manage the ongoing developments.
