Michelin-Starred Restaurant in Taiwan Faces Backlash Over Shocking Grill Prices

A restaurant in Anping District, Tainan, Taiwan, that was previously recognized by the Michelin Guide, "牛五蔵 (Niu Wu Zang)," is facing criticism after a customer's social media post detailed an unexpectedly high bill. The post revealed shocking prices for grilled items: "8 slices of yam for 880 NTD, 14 slices of zucchini for 880 NTD, and two plates of meat priced at 5500 NTD and 4600 NTD respectively."

According to 老闆 (Boss) 劉柏翰 (Liu Po-Han), the restaurant did verbally inform one of the customers about the pricing. However, he acknowledged the issue and stated that the restaurant would take steps to improve. In a phone interview with the media, 劉柏翰 (Liu Po-Han) explained that the incident was due to a communication gap with the five 消費者 (consumers). He confirmed that one customer had been informed about the un-menu style barbecue, which exceeded 2000 NTD. He committed to reviewing their practices based on consumer feedback and will clearly label prices moving forward.
