On the afternoon of October 22nd, a man identified as Mr. Lin in Taoyuan City, Taiwan, was involved in a car accident while driving a new Mercedes C43 coupe, valued at NT$3.8 million (approximately USD $117,000). The incident occurred on Zhengguang Road in Taoyuan District. According to reports, Mr. Lin appeared to have been distracted, causing him to collide with a parked vehicle before subsequently hitting a traffic control device. The impact resulted in the Mercedes flipping over, with its wheels facing upwards.

The loud crash alarmed bystanders, who rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, the Taoyuan police discovered that the vehicle's license plate was forged. Mr. Lin admitted that his license plate had been suspended due to speeding violations. He had then purchased the counterfeit plate online to continue driving. Following police investigation, Mr. Lin was arrested on charges of forgery of special documents and was handed over to the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office for further proceedings.

Mr. Lin sustained minor injuries, including a scrape on his forehead, which were treated by paramedics. While a breathalyzer test showed no alcohol consumption, the car's front end sustained significant damage. Mr. Lin confessed that he had purchased the fake license plate online after his original plate was confiscated by the authorities due to a speeding violation, attempting to evade law enforcement.

Regarding the cause of the accident, Mr. Lin stated that he may have been distracted, leading to the initial collision. He now faces charges related to document forgery and potentially substantial costs to repair the damaged vehicles and infrastructure, estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands of NT dollars.
