New Taipei City Opens Sports Centers for the World Masters Games: A Winning Combination

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – New Taipei City is gearing up to welcome athletes from around the globe during the World Masters Games, announcing that its public sports centers will remain open and accessible throughout the event.

The World Masters Games, scheduled to take place in Greater Taipei from May 17-30, is anticipated to draw an impressive 25,000 athletes. This year's participation level marks it as the third-largest in the competition's history, showcasing Taiwan's growing prominence in the international sporting arena.

The city's sports department has confirmed that several key facilities will be integrated into the Games. Public sports centers in Zhonghe, Sanchong, and Banqiao Districts will host basketball competitions. Volleyball matches are slated for the Xindian venue, and handball will be played in Luzhou, per reports from CNA.

New Taipei City boasts a comprehensive network of sporting facilities, including 16 large public sports centers, two aquatic centers, and 13 gyms. These facilities are well-equipped, featuring amenities like swimming pools, table tennis rooms, climbing walls, badminton courts, and comprehensive fitness centers.

Further bolstering its commitment to sports and recreation, the city government is actively expanding its infrastructure. Plans are in place to construct additional large sports centers in districts with populations exceeding 250,000. The second facilities in Banqiao and Luzhou are currently under construction, with anticipated completion next year.

The city will also establish secondary sports centers in Xinzhuang and Sanchong Districts. The Xinzhuang center is designed to include an indoor rowing training facility, while the Sanchong center will incorporate a dedicated fencing room.

A welcoming gesture to the athletes participating in the World Masters Games, the city has announced that participants can enjoy free access to the fitness centers and swimming pools at the public sports centers, simply by presenting their event credentials.
