Taiwan Pauses Foreign Graduate Job Initiative: Six Categories Delayed

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Plans to open up six specific job categories to foreign graduates of Taiwanese universities have been delayed, according to reports released on Wednesday.

Initially announced in March, the Ministry of Labor intended to permit foreign graduates to work in roles such as intercity and city bus drivers, intercity and city bus safety management staff, freight truck drivers and driving assistants, warehouse logistics clerks, and assistant nurses. However, the Ministry has decided to postpone the initiative, per CNA, due to feedback received during the public consultation phase concerning the proposal.

An announcement made by the Ministry on Wednesday indicated that while migrant workers can now apply for jobs in the waste recycling sector, the six mid-level job categories for foreign graduates were not included in this specific announcement.

Su Yu-kuo (蘇裕國), a division chief from the Workforce Development Agency, stated that the Ministry had received public suggestions that would be discussed internally. The Ministry plans to reevaluate the measures to be implemented alongside the changes, he further added.

The Taiwanese government aimed to attract approximately 6,500 foreign graduates through these six mid-level job categories.
