Indonesia and Turkey Forge Ahead: Strengthening Ties in Higher Education and Research

Jakarta – In a significant move to bolster international collaboration, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, and Erol Özvar, President of the Higher Education (HE) Council of Turkey, have pledged to deepen cooperation in higher education and research between Indonesia and Turkey. This commitment was solidified during their meeting in Ankara on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

During the discussions, Özvar provided insights into the responsibilities of the Turkish HE Council and its crucial role in coordinating universities across Turkey. He highlighted the considerable potential for collaborative efforts between the two nations in the realms of research and innovation, laying the groundwork for impactful advancements.

Several strategic initiatives were deliberated to fortify this partnership. Notably, the establishment of a Joint Working Group between Indonesia and Turkey was announced. This group is slated to commence with a kick-off meeting on May 22, 2025, and will comprise ten representatives from each country. The primary focus of this meeting will be to refine the details of the cooperation program and to gather proposals from both parties, setting the stage for concrete actions.

"This initiative is part of our ongoing effort to strengthen cultural and educational ties," stated Minister Yuliarto in a statement released on Friday. Furthermore, plans are underway to introduce an Indonesian Language and Literature program at Istanbul University, demonstrating a commitment to fostering cross-cultural understanding and exchange.
