Taiwan Traffic Safety: 7 Key Themes for Large Vehicle Operators After a Serious Accident in Taichung

Following a Multi-Vehicle Collision, Authorities in Taichung City Address Safety Concerns with Trucking and Bus Companies.

Following a recent incident involving a suspected brake failure that resulted in a 21-vehicle collision in the Shalu District of Taichung City, Taiwan, local authorities are taking action to enhance traffic safety. The accident, which occurred on a long downhill section of Shangxiang Road, left nine individuals injured.

The Taichung City Police Department's Traffic Division, in collaboration with the Qingshui and Wuri Police Precincts, hosted a seminar at the Qingshui Police Precinct Auditorium. The event focused on improving safety practices for large vehicle drivers, including those operating trucks and buses. Representatives from trucking, gravel transport, and passenger transport companies were invited to participate.

The seminar addressed seven key themes identified as critical for improving safety. These included "finger-pointing confirmation," the use of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), proper braking techniques, understanding inner-wheel differences, speeding, drunk driving, and addressing blind spots. The goal is to foster a safer environment for all road users in Taiwan.
