Taiwanese Woman Battles for Life After Tragic Vancouver Car Ramming

A Young Taiwanese Traveler, Sora, Remains Unconscious Following the Deadly Incident

Taipei, Taiwan - A Taiwanese woman, identified only as Sora, is currently in critical condition following a devastating vehicle ramming incident in Vancouver, Canada, which claimed the lives of 11 people on Saturday. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vancouver has confirmed that Sora remains unconscious after being injured.

The incident occurred at a Filipino community event held after a heritage festival celebrating Lapu Lapu Day, attracting approximately 10,000 attendees. Sora, who is in Canada on a working holiday, was struck by a black Audi SUV. The impact caused her to fall to the ground and sustain a head injury.

Rushed to the hospital, Sora has suffered multiple fractures and contusions. Her friends have since notified her family of her condition.

The representative office in Vancouver and a local Taiwanese hometown association are providing assistance to Sora and her family during this difficult time.

“The hospital and police require Sora's immediate family to handle paperwork, but her mother is currently unable to travel abroad,” stated Angel Liu (劉立欣), head of the representative office. She added that the Foreign Ministry is actively assisting in facilitating other relatives to take on the necessary responsibilities.

During a press conference following the tragedy, Steve Rai, interim chief of the Vancouver Police Department, described the incident as "the darkest day in our city's history," emphasizing that "the actions of a single person shattered our collective sense of safety."

The driver, Kai-ji Adam Lo, a man in his 30s, has been charged with eight counts of second-degree murder, with further charges anticipated. The victims ranged in age from 5 to 65.
