Taiwan's Political Stage: Chiang Wan-an and Lai Ching-teh Share the Spotlight
A rare joint appearance sparks speculation and calls for unity in Taipei.

Following recent political discussions, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an and President Lai Ching-teh shared a stage for the first time. Chiang Wan-an, after previously mentioning the possibility of a "no-confidence vote," emphasized the importance of leaders prioritizing the well-being of the people.
During their shared appearance at the 2025 Taipei Mother Goddess Cultural Festival in Songshan Cihui Hall, Chiang Wan-an stated, "Those in positions of power must always prioritize the people's livelihoods and the welfare of the populace." He further added that in light of the challenging external environment facing Taiwan, internal divisions should be minimized, calling for collaborative efforts. President Lai Ching-teh maintained a neutral expression during the address and offered no immediate response.
The event, attended by President Lai Ching-teh and Minister of the Interior Liu Shih-fang, saw Chiang Wan-an waiting for the President's arrival before they greeted each other and entered the temple. Journalists attempted to solicit comments on topics such as the potential "no-confidence vote" and calls to halt future *罷免* (recall) attempts, but President Lai Ching-teh and Mayor Chiang Wan-an remained silent.
