Amid an investigation into alleged fraudulent signatures in a recall petition, Taichung Mayor Lucy Chen (盧秀燕) is defending her environmental record. Criticism has surfaced regarding her previous promotion of an "anti-coal-fired power plant referendum" when she was a legislator, with some labeling her as the "originator of death signatures."

The Taichung City Government has responded to the accusations. A spokesperson highlighted that the "anti-air pollution referendum" garnered almost 8 million votes in support, demonstrating significant public backing. They also pointed to notable advancements in air quality within Taichung during Lucy Chen's (盧秀燕) time in office.

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in Taichung has criticized Lucy Chen (盧秀燕). They mentioned that in 2018, while still a legislator, she promoted the anti-coal-fired power plant referendum, but the petition contained numerous invalid and “death signatures,” and they criticized her for defending the KMT and accusing the justice system of being unfair.
