Rare Albino Dolphin Spotted Off Taiwan's Coast: A Once-in-a-Lifetime Sighting!

Taipei, April 28 – Marine enthusiasts in Taiwan are celebrating a remarkable sighting: an albino spinner dolphin, a creature of extraordinary rarity, was spotted off the coast of Yilan County in northeastern Taiwan on Sunday. The encounter, documented by the whale-watching tour operator Kai-ching Whale-watching Boat, has sparked excitement among locals and marine biologists alike.

"This is the first time I've seen an albino spinner dolphin in over a decade!" exclaimed the Kai-ching Whale-watching Boat company in a Facebook post shared the same day. The company reported that the exceptionally white dolphin was observed swimming among a large pod of hundreds of spinner dolphins near Guishan Island.

The juvenile albino dolphin appeared to be accompanied by a larger female, presumed to be its mother, according to the tour operators. This delicate family dynamic further enhanced the special nature of the encounter.

Lin Cheng-hao (林正浩), a guide with the tour boat company, highlighted the extreme rarity of albinism in animals, estimating its occurrence at only about one in 30,000 individuals. Passengers aboard the whale-watching tour were overwhelmed by the spectacle, expressing their amazement and feeling "extremely lucky" to witness the event.
