Taiwan Crackdown: Authorities Summon Suspects in Chinese Nationals Entry Case

Taipei, Taiwan – In a significant development, the Taiwan Taipei District Prosecutors Office has summoned ten individuals for questioning concerning their alleged involvement in facilitating the illegal entry of Chinese nationals into Taiwan.

The investigation, which unfolded on Wednesday, saw prosecutors execute searches at nine different locations. Suspects are facing scrutiny for potential violations of the Act Governing Relations between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area, alongside charges related to document forgery.

At the heart of the case is a woman identified as Pan (潘), who operates a dental clinic. She, along with another dentist, is accused of submitting falsified treatment plans to assist over 600 Chinese nationals in gaining entry to Taiwan between December 2022 and May 2023.

The individuals, ostensibly admitted as medical visitors, are alleged to have engaged in illicit activities, including tourism, part-time employment, and, sex work throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, defying the conditions of their visas.

Further implicating the network are several representatives from travel agencies, who are accused of collaborating with the dental professionals to execute this illicit scheme. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the full scope of the operation and the individuals involved.
