Knife Attack on Taipei Metro: Understanding the Risks and Staying Safe

An incident of random violence occurred at the Taipei Metro's Shipai Station this evening at approximately 5:54 PM. A 40-year-old woman, identified as Lin, reportedly attacked a 42-year-old woman, Chen, with a knife, stabbing her in the back. Police apprehended Lin at the scene and are currently investigating, initially classifying the incident as a case of assault. Chen was immediately transported to the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition, with no life-threatening injuries.

Dr. Li Jun-hong, Deputy Superintendent of the Ministry of Health and Welfare's Taoyuan Psychiatric Center, highlighted that the causes behind such random acts of violence are diverse. He referenced a recent attack on the Taichung Metro, where the perpetrator appeared to be experiencing a mental health issue. He also noted instances of individuals in northern Taiwan attacking others following an argument, emphasizing that the precise reasons for the Shipai Station incident require further investigation.
