A tragic incident occurred on the Central Cross-Island Highway's Yilan branch, Ta-7A, near the 6.8-kilometer mark earlier today, resulting in one fatality and one severe injury. At approximately 4:00 PM, a significant rockslide caused massive rocks to fall, directly impacting a passing truck.

The impact was devastating. The passenger in the front seat of the truck was killed instantly. The driver, initially unconscious, sustained severe injuries, including bone fractures. Emergency services, including the Yilan County Fire Department, responded promptly, dispatching rescue teams from Nanshan, Yuanshan, Datong, and Yilan.

The accident has forced the closure of one lane, resulting in single-lane, two-way traffic. Authorities are currently investigating the exact cause of the rockslide.
