Thai Court Sentences Chinese Nationals for Illegally Removing Documents After Building Collapse

In the wake of a magnitude 8.2 earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28th, a 34-story audit building under construction in Bangkok, Thailand, collapsed. On March 29th, four Chinese nationals entered the restricted area and removed 32 documents.

The individuals claimed they were attempting to retrieve documents related to insurance claims. However, on April 1st, a Thai court sentenced each of them to one month in prison and a fine of 3,000 Thai Baht.

Following the collapse of the building in Bangkok, authorities immediately declared the site a restricted zone under the Disaster Prevention Act, prohibiting unauthorized entry. The four men entered the area without permission and removed 32 documents before leaving. Police were notified and apprehended them, subsequently charging them with violating the ban and illegally removing documents from a controlled zone.
