Taiwan Politics Heats Up: Mayor Chiang Wan-an Accuses DPP of Being "Communist Dogs"

Escalating Tensions in Taipei as accusations fly between Mayor Chiang and DPP's Jane Chien.

The political landscape in Taiwan is intensifying as accusations of collaboration and ideological subversion are being leveled between Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an and members of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

The controversy began when DPP City Councillor Jane Chien questioned Mayor Chiang on which country sought to eliminate the Republic of China (Taiwan). Chiang's response was direct: "It's the DPP and the Communist Party."

This led to a heated exchange. Chien subsequently criticized Chiang on Facebook. However, the online response appeared to overwhelmingly support the Mayor. Online comments included statements such as, "Mayor Chiang completely outmaneuvered them," and, "The spies are within the DPP."

The initial exchange centered on a question Chien posed, referencing remarks that implied the KMT (Kuomintang) had become a "dog" of the Communist Party. Mayor Chiang countered by directly accusing the DPP of seeking the destruction of the Republic of China and harboring individuals who could be considered "spies." He stated the DPP was the real "dog" of the CCP (Chinese Communist Party), despite their public rhetoric against communism.
