Tomb Sweeping Festival Travel Alert: Expect Heavy Traffic Across Taiwan!

Taipei, Taiwan - The Highway Bureau is warning of significant traffic congestion across Taiwan's provincial highways during the upcoming four-day Tomb Sweeping Festival holiday, commencing Thursday and concluding Sunday. Motorists are strongly encouraged to proactively monitor traffic conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly to mitigate potential delays.

The Bureau emphasizes the importance of staying informed, avoiding peak travel times, and considering alternate routes when possible. According to a recent news release, congestion is anticipated in several key areas.

Specifically, Provincial Highway No. 9, connecting Su'ao and Hualien in eastern Taiwan, is expected to experience heavy traffic at various times. Southbound lanes are likely to be particularly affected on Thursday, from 3 AM to 5 PM, and again on Friday, from 8 AM to 10 AM. Northbound lanes are forecast to experience increased traffic on Saturday, from 2 PM to 7 PM, and on Sunday, from 1 PM to 4 PM.

Travelers journeying between Taitung and Pingtung can also expect potential congestion on both northbound and southbound lanes of Highway No. 9 throughout the holiday.

In Pingtung County, a section of Provincial Highway No. 1, between Shuidiliao in Fangliao Township and Fenggan in Fangshan Township, is projected to face heavy traffic during the initial three days of the holiday.

Furthermore, various sections of Provincial Highway No. 61, the West Coast Expressway, stretching from New Taipei to Tainan, are also expected to experience periods of congestion. The Bureau highlighted potential delays near Miaoli County and Taichung due to ongoing reconstruction work on two road bridges.

Motorists are also advised to be aware of potential congestion on Provincial Highways No. 64 and No. 65, both located in New Taipei. Finally, the Bureau advises travelers to locations such as the section between Fulong and Wanli in New Taipei on Provincial Highway No. 2.
